You can enter your film from that date onwards (see below for how to do to this) but if your film is already completed or, even, uploaded to YouTube, My Space or Daily Motion then please send it in straight away. Please note though, that screenings of pre-sent films will not commence until July 11. Entries will be accepted until Friday, August 29. Late submissions may be accepted, subsequent to discussion with the festival. All entries will screen here on the site as soon as they are received and uploaded to our server and, if necessary, formatted. From September 5, however, only the 9 finalists selected for competition will screen on the site. A full index of all entrants and their contact details, regardless of whether they became finalists, will be kept online for perpetuity. The winners will be announced on Monday, September 29. ![]() The festival encourages entrants to upload their work to YouTube, My Space or Daily Motion then submit the relevant url as their entry to the festival. Alternatively, please send .mov files (we are compatible with QuickTime only). The maximum file size is 10MB and no film may be longer than 10 minutes. Entries of excessive file size or length may be returned to the entrant for re-compression or editing. It is most important that each entry commences with brief titles stating at the least, the film's title. Other credits are at the entrant's discretion. The festival takes every effort to ensure entries are presented at their best; that is why we prefer entries pre-uploaded to third party players as mentioned above, which we can easily embed in the site. The festival is not responsible for any form of errors or problems inherent in the entrant's submitted work and we are only able to offer very limitd service regarding uploading, compression and so on. Please note that the judges will evaluate and score each film separately - the judging panel do not meet nor do they discuss their scores or feedback. Winners and runners-up are decided based on combined scores sent in by the judges and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the final results. ![]() Concerning genre, style, plot or theme the festival has no guidelines beyond that the film should have some sort of gay or queer angel, and/or be created by a gay-identifying filmmaker. In other words, go for your life! We are happy to accept erotic or soft core content, in fact for the benefit of the judges and the festival administrators we actively encourage this. Hard core stuff is a bit of a grey area: we are happy to show penetration or oral scenes, for example, but anything too hard core may be subject to revision by the festival. Again, by all means submit such work. Work must be original and made no earlier than 2007. ![]() Again, entries uploaded to third party sits such as YouTube are preferable as the emailing of large .mov files can be problematic. Please email entries, regardless of their format to mark (@) outrate.net. The festival will not accept hard copies of any entries, sorry. Your entry must contain: * The file itself, or the url to where you have uploaded it to a third party site. * The name of the film's director(s), screenwriter(s), key cast, producer(s) or production company * A synopsis between 25 and 50 words * A contact email with associated name (this will be used in the filmmakers index) * I you are submitting a film on .mov, then please, a couple of stills from the film Entry is free from July 11 to July 29. From July 30 to August 29, an administrative fee of $14.95 will apply to all entries. This fee will be payable by PayPal or direct wire deposit. These details will appear here from July 29. 9 films will be selected as finalists, and these are the films that the judges will score and provide feedback on. The festival in no way offers itself as an intermediary between filmmakers and the judges, and the final decision by the judges is final. By entering your short into the 2008 Outrate Online Short Film Festival you agree to have it screened on the site for a year, should it be selected as a finalist. The festival reserves the right to reject any entry, but we do encourage all to enter their work (rejection would take place only under the most extreme circumstances). Prizes are offered by our festival sponsors and we, again, do not act as intermediary between prize winners and prize providers. Good luck and we're looking forward to receiving your entry! |
